Crypto tax preparation checklist
Use this checklist to organise evidence before calculating UK crypto tax. It covers records, reconciliation and filing preparation. Completing it does not certify your tax return or replace advice about uncertain transactions.
Tick each step as you finish. Download a text copy to keep your progress. Nothing is uploaded or saved on our servers; refreshing this page resets the ticks.

Separate 2025/26 filing from 2026/27 activity. Record the return and payment deadlines that apply to you.
Check tax years →Include closed exchanges, self-custody addresses, DeFi positions and earlier acquisition history.
Build your account inventory →Keep untouched CSVs, statements and transaction hashes before you edit or import anything.
Get record templates →Pair incoming and outgoing transfers, remove duplicate imports and investigate negative balances.
Repair missing records →Separate sales, swaps, fees, rewards and unusual DeFi events. Record uncertain classifications for review.
Review DeFi events →Use a documented GBP price and time for each relevant event, including stablecoins and token-paid fees.
Check sterling valuations →Use same-day and 30-day matching before the Section 104 pool; preserve the loss and allowance calculation.
Follow a matching example →Review gains, income, existing Self Assessment registration and any notice to file. CARF is a separate reporting system.
Check your reporting situation →Resolve material uncertainties, complete the correct return sections, pay when due and save submission evidence.
